“Like” RAK Airways or “Follow” them!

The rise of the internet age has enabled us to live a life at a faster pace. Because of the freedom the web provides, millions of people can communicate at the same time. Never before in human history has there been a time like this.

Social networking is a recent invention that has the Internet still at the edge of its seat due to its popularity with people. This is mostly because it really is for the people. Bringing every kind of social group together in one place and letting them interact is really a big thing indeed. Social media is not just a platform for easy and simple advanced online marketing, it is also the revolution of our century!

Despite the relatively small number of  “fans” and “followers”, RAK Airways is the first Middle Eastern airline to actively use social media to engage with its passengers, via mediums such as Twitter and Facebook.  Since its relaunch in October 2010, RAK Airways has benefited widely from social media in building passenger numbers, while gradually expanding its destination network to Africa, Middle East and Asia.
RAK Airways is a new, fledgling low cost carrier in the UAE. To date their prices are very reasonable and their destinations are steadily increasing. As far as customer service, RAK Airways deserve a standing ovation for their monitoring of the situation and co-ordination of efforts.

It’s worth saying though, that social media pages, whether on Facebook or Twitter, are not meant to simply inform you of new deals, discounts, offers, online booking, etc. They serve as a portal through which information flows both ways: from them to you and vice versa. As customers it is our responsibility to use social media responsibly. It is your window to communicating with the company directly.

Qatar Economy 5 Star Class

Voted Airline of the Year 2011 in the prestigious Skytrax industry audit, Qatar Airways has won the confidence of the travelling public. Part of this success is due to offering 5-Star unmatched levels of service excellence, even with its Economy Class, which was awarded “World’s Best” at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2009 and 2010.

Starting from the ground up, there are 40+ check-in counters available in Doha International Airport, each equipped with a state-of-the-art plasma screen, providing bilingual flight information in English and Arabic.

You have a checked baggage allowance of 23 kg total for all routes excluding transatlantic. Customers travelling transatlantic have a checked baggage allowance of two pieces with each not exceeding 23 kg. All routes have a carry-on allowance of one piece not exceeding 7 kg (50x37x25 cm).

During the flights, Qatar Airways offers Economy Class passengers a seat pitch of up to 34 inches. Economy class passengers on A330/A340 aircraft are offered individual seat-back TV screens, while passengers on Boeing 777 aircraft are offered touch-screen TVs.

Entertainment, on the other hand, is vast and possibly the best in the skies: 178 movies, 263 television programs, music, games, an entire channel devoted to children, all in eight languages and presented on a nifty touch screen.

Qatar Airways are one of the few airlines to serve two meals during a six-hour flight. The second meal, breakfast, is offered around an hour and half before landing with more options than the first meal. Various types of bread rolls, pain du chocolate, croissant, and brown and white toast are available in the bakery basket.

Etihad Two Pearls (Business Classes)

As is the case with many airlines these days, Etihad Airways offers different levels of service even within one category. There are two versions of Business Class on Etihad, although oddly they carry exactly the same name – Pearl Business Class- they’re notably different; one has normal seats and the other has flat bed seats.

What we will discuss first is the cabin configuration of the Pearl Business class cabins with seats that recline into flat beds – since they are the nicer ones-. While at the bottom of the post, you’ll find information about what to expect if you get an Etihad flight with Pearl Business Class that doesn’t have flat beds as well.

Arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, Pearl business class seats recline into a six foot one bed with a seat pitch of 72 inches. The seat’s three massage options are very relaxing and so is the mood lighting, in which light colour and intensity is adjusted to the time and duration of the journey.

All dishes on the a la carte menu and the lighter “kitchen anytime” menu are available any time. The a la carte menu includes Arabic treats such as chicken “tagine” with stewed potatoes, preserved lemons and olives, as well as more Western fare. An extensive list of special meals is available for guests with dietary restrictions. Simply place your request at the time of booking or at least 24 hours prior to departure.

Enjoy a choice of over 650 hours of on-demand entertainment on the 15-inch individual LCD TVs. There are 132 television programs and 76 movies in more than 10 languages. Do you need more? There are also 13 audio channels, a library of more than 250 CDs and 29 games.

On the ground facilities for Business Class passengers include chauffered door-to-door service using a fleet of Mercedes E Class and Volvo S80 vehicles. The service is also offered to any destination in the UAE. While the Pearl Business Class Lounge in Abu Dhabi is a stylish haven of dark wood, leather seats and artfully arranged coffee-table books. You can take a shower then have a free foot and leg massage in the Six Senses spa.

In the other version of Pearl Business Class, the cabins look more like what you’d expect from First Class or Business Class on a shorter domestic flight. The seats are larger and recline further than in coach, but they don’t recline to flat beds and they aren’t semi-enclosed by privacy shells. Seats still include outlets for recharging laptops, iPods or other devices. Video options is essentially the same, and meals are also still a la carte, although the number of menu choices may be less than you’d find in a cabin with the higher level of Business Class service.

Emirates is one of the world’s fastest growing airlines, and clearly it wouldn’t be growing if it wasn’t providing a good quality product that passengers appreciate and keep coming back for more. You will also find that there is a special lounge aboard where you can enjoy hot or cold drinks and even take a comfy seat if you fancy a change of scene.

When it comes to the food, you will have a variety of choices. For breakfast, this will include hot and cold options, all accompanied by fruit juice, tea, coffee, pastries and yoghurt. Meanwhile, dinner or lunch is a real treat, with cold canapés served ahead of a five-course meal.

If you just want to lie back and take advantage of the in-flight entertainment, and whatever you’re in the mood for, whether it’s international movies and TV programs or music, video games and news from around the globe – with up to 1,400 channels, the “ice” system will deliver on-demand entertainment when you want it.
