Southwest Airlines wishes a happy new year

“Another year is upon us—and this one marks Southwest’s 42nd of giving Americans the Freedom to Fly. A lot has changed since we first took flight in 1971. That, of course, shouldn’t surprise anyone. What began as an upstart airline serving three Texas cities has grown to carry more Passengers in the United States than any other. Today, one out of every four domestic passengers is flying Southwest Airlines or AirTran Airways, which we acquired in May 2011. What strikes me, however, is what hasn’t changed.” Gary Kelly, Chairman, President, and CEO of Southwest Airlines

When Southwest first started service, the Original Employees exhibited a Maverick Spirit and a resolve to make air transportation affordable, convenient, and fun. Believe it or not, that concept was completely foreign in air travel at the time. Flying was a luxury for the rich and elite. Southwest was the disruptive force that changed all that.

Southwest Airlines and airTran on Monday November, 19, 2012 extended its operational schedule till late-August 2013, which sees network changes starting on June, 02, 2013. AirTran service transfers to Southwest Airlines includes Baltimore – San Juan 2 daily, Chicago Midway – Wichita 2 daily, Dallas Love Field – Wichita 2 daily, Las Vegas – Wichita 1 daily.

New Southwest service will be effective on June, 02, 2013 includes Chicago Midway – Tulsa 1 daily and Houston Hobby – New York La Guardia 2 daily. Southwest Service to resume from June, 02, 2013 for Summer season includes Las Vegas – Manchester NH 1 daily, Portland OR – Austin 1 daily, Seattle – Atlanta 1 daily, Seattle – Houston Hobby 1 daily, Seattle – Kansas City 1 daily, Seattle – Nashville 1 daily.
